Hello,
I had a question for you regarding a dispute I am currently having with my director at my job. I work at a hagwon that has almost 200 people including staff and students coming in and out every day. During the current Level 4 social distancing standards, we have been mostly operating our classes online. However, this past week my director decided to move the kids back to offline classes. Many of our teachers, myself included, voiced our concerns with this plan to our director but were ultimately ignored. I personally felt extremely uncomfortable with this decision as I had yet to receive my second vaccine shot and was not scheduled to receive it until the end of the week. I have also been sick for a long time now and my immune system has yet to fully recover. So I told my director that I did not feel safe coming into work until I received my full vaccine. After I was fully vaccinated I would be more than willing to work in the school with the students offline.
My director first told me she would take this as me quitting but I told her I never said I wanted to quit. After I refused to come into the school before my vaccine appointment she then sent me a letter saying we have mutually agreed to terminate my contract. However, as I said before, I never agreed to that. Needless to say, I was taken a bit aback as I don't see the reason for her to try and fire me when I was just trying to be a better and healthier teacher for my students. Over the week I sent many messages to my director where I explicitly stated I would come back to work again after my vaccination. However, in the letter she sent to me she quoted parts from the messages I sent to her but chose to leave those parts out.
So I guess my question is, do you have any advice on how I might proceed with this? Does my director have the right to fire me for trying to take care of myself and trying to follow the current social distancing standards better?
Also, I received many messages from my coworkers who were all supportive of my decision to stay home given my current health status which is why I ultimately don't believe I made a wrong decision. I will attach two files. One is the original letter my director sent to me and the other is one I edited to show what she failed to include from my original messages.
Thank you for your time.
